COMPLETE GUIDE TO G. I. JOE: A REAL AMERICAN HERO

2006 (Series 22)

Picture Forthcoming

Overview

The Sigma Six toys and cartoons continued this year with evident success, now supplemented by "Mission Scale" 2.5-inch figures and vehicles. The strategy of Direct-to-Consumer exclusives proved unworkable due to insufficient sales, and the figures began showing up at Toys 'R Us, along with a few more 6-packs.

By spring, the now-traditional scale was on its previously announced hiatus, with the exception of fan-directed exclusives made available by the G. I. Joe Collector's Club and the convention, which was held late this year (Sept. 27-30). The line would then lie silent until the following summer.

2006 DTC Wave 3 Figures

Grand SlamItem # 13021Direct-to-Consumer Wave 3 Carded Assortment
ArtilleryE-5 (Army sergeant)SN: 379-54-JB14
File Name: Sgt. James J. BarneyPrimary MOS: Artillery
POB: Chippewa Falls, WISecondary MOS: Electronics Engineer
Appearance: short-cut brown hair and short moustache; dark green shirt and pants; red pads on shoulders and vest; black belt, gloves, kneepads, and boots.
Accessories: dark green helmet (new, with chinstrap and black goggles); black bandolier (04 Dusty's, with yellow grenades); black pistol (shared with Med Alert, 9mm with pointed hammer); black laser rifle (new, with post for mounting).
Filecard Information: GRAND SLAM is familiar with most indirect fire weapons and their various capabilities. He positions himself at the front edge of battle or behind enemy lines, to observe COBRA forces and call back to the team with target locations. From mortars to howitzers, grenade launchers to anti-tank guns, GRAND SLAM knows each weapon's firing range and operation. His ability to estimate distance and plot trajectories is exceptional. He can set up just the right artillery attack to "soften up" the enemy, cause general confusion or destroy entrenched fortifications. He's fascinated with artillery of the past and has built miniature versions of catapults and trebuchets, experimenting with them on team members who don't mind being bombarded with a volley of small stones and stale bread rolls.
"With some M1 mortars, howitzers, and M203 grenade launchers, I'll have the enemy worn down and ready to fall in no time."

Low LightItem # 13022Direct-to-Consumer Wave 3 Carded Assortment

File Name: Sgt. Cooper G. MacBridePrimary MOS: Infantry
POB: Crosby, NDSecondary MOS: Marksmanship Instructor
Appearance: yellow hair; black knit cap; grey shirt and pants with brown belt and black and brown boots; yellow panel on left leg.
Accessories: black goggles (new, with red lenses); black vest (04 Gung Ho's, with red panel); black handgun (03 Beachhead's); black sniper rifle (new, M82 .50-cal.) with bipod.
Filecard Information: A self-taught expert in image intensifiers, LOW LIGHT maintains and repairs all of his own night-vision equipment. He also holds the patents on two components in the latest models. He is extremely good at staying still and quiet for long periods of time and has a natural ability to blend in with his surroundings. If you're a COBRA TROOPER out in the bush on a moonless night, in darkness so thick you can't tell whether your eyes are open or not, you may be sweating bullets and your nerves are taut with anxiety, but there's somebody else out there. He's sitting cool in the dense shadows, watching every move you make and resting the cross hairs of his night scope on the center of your head. His name is LOW LIGHT, and he owns the night.
"It's crazy, but I see better in the dark than I do in the light. That's something the enemy should keep in mind when they start skulking here at night."

Accessories: black helmet (new, squat, lumpy helmet with attached mic); black waist belt (03 Cross Hair's); black pistol (shared with Grand Slam; 9mm); black rifle (new, futuristic/experimental with shotgun barrel).
Filecard Information: MED ALERT worked in the emergency room of an inner city hospital before enlisting in the military, so he is highly skilled at remaining cool and competent in the middle of crisis and chaos. He doesn't hesitate to charge into battle to reach his patients, dodging firefights and explosions to reach those in need. He was introduced to Tai Chi Chuan by a patient who used the practice to help himself heal. Intrigued, MED ALERT began studying Tai Chi, quickly mastering the complex movements and discovering its effectiveness in hand-to-hand confrontations. When he first began teaching it to the G. I. JOE Team, most of them wondered how it could help them in battle. Then they saw MED ALERT go one-on-one with a COBRA VIPER and use his skill to defeat the enemy. Now it's standing room only on class day.

Cobra TrooperItem # 13018Direct-to-Consumer Wave 3 Carded Assortment
COBRA Infantry Forces
Appearance: blue face mask with red crest; blue shirt with large red Cobra emblem on front; black diagonal strap, arm bands, and gloves; blue pants; grey boots; red pads on gloves and boots.
Accessories: blue helmet (new, flared with red Cobra emblem); two blue straps (new, attach to belt); black assault rifle (02 Neo-Viper's AK-74); black bazooka (new, long, thin two-piece).
Filecard Information: The COBRA TROOPER infantry forces are the most basic, bottom-of-the barrel soldiers in the COBRA regime. They have to work their way up to become COBRA VIPER forces. They are thugs, mercenaries, pirates, and assorted lowlifes who are recruited from all over the world. They are given the most basic level of training, which amounts to simply organizing a handful of them into a reasonably cohesive group, giving them the most basic of uniforms, handing them equipment, and telling them to go out and destroy, sabotage, and wreak havoc. The COBRA TROOPER divisions are not specialized, but instead are sent in as basic infantry ground forces. Their key advantages are their pure nastiness and sheer numbers.
"We're the grunts of the COBRA organization, the guys who pour into the field and fight for all we're worth, overpowering the enemy with might, meanness, and machine guns."

Monkey WrenchItem # 13019Direct-to-Consumer Wave 3 Carded Assortment
Dreadnok
File Name: Bill Winkie
POB: Rhyl, North Wales
Appearance: long brown hair and full beard; white tank top with "Dreadnok 4 Life" in black; white armwraps from knuckles to biceps; light blue jeans with brown kneepads and black belt and boots.
Accessories: brown trench coat (new, with red Dreadnok emblem); two black shotguns (03 Destro's SPAS-12); black knife (05 Shadow Strike's, Butterfly sword with silver blade).
Filecard Information: MONKEY WRENCH joined a group of local thugs and anarchists for whom he built explosive devices. He enjoyed the challenge of crafting finely tuned mechanisms and liked to be there when they were detonated, to admire the results of all his hard work. By age sixteen, he was a pariah in his hometown and bored with the limited opportunities for his particular skill. He headed to London's East End, where he developed rudeness and crude anti-social behavior to levels unheard of in the western hemisphere. He moved around, always finding groups in need of someone who can make things go bang. Eventually, his wanderings brought him to Australia and the DREADNOK criminal gang, who were delighted with his explosives expertise and thoroughly at home with his bad attitude.
"I like to add a bit of fireworks to my explosives, you know, sparklers and Roman candles and stuff. Gives it a personal touch and adds a bit of color for onlookers."
Versions: 1. 1986 2. 2006 (DTC)
Variations: None.

SAW ViperItem # 13017Direct-to-Consumer Wave 3 Carded Assortment
COBRA Heavy Machine Gunner
Appearance: short-cut brown hair; long, black jacket with dark red pockets, straps, and belt; black gloves; black baggy pants; dark red boots.
Accessories: black helmet (new, with green visor and attached silver mic); dark red backpack (90 SAW-Viper's); black mini-machine gun (new, M249 SAW) with bipod).
Filecard Information: The COBRA S.A.W. VIPER trooper is equipped with a gyro-stabilized, cryogenically cooled mini-chain gun, scoped with an infrared night-vision, auto-ranging optical sighting system. This means that he has a highly accurate, low-malfunction machine gun that doesn't burn out the barrel during intense rapid-fire bursts. It's nothing for him to zone-in on a flea nestled in heavy brush over 100 yards away in pitch darkness, and pick it off in one shot. You definitely don't want to get pinned down by a COBRA S.A.W. VIPER trooper at night. His weapon has an integral sound suppressor, an effective flash inhibitor, and a powerful image-intensifier: you won't hear or see him coming.
"Once you're in our line of sight, you can't escape. Accept the inevitable and surrender."

FrostbiteItem # 56690Boxed with DTC Ice Sabre
Arctic Operations SpecialistE-5 (Army sergeant)SN: 215-58-SF36
File Name: Corp. Farley S. SewardPrimary MOS: Armored Vehicle Driver
POB: Galena, AKSecondary MOS: Vehicle Specialist
Appearance: black ski cap with gold goggles; no facial hair; white layered snowsuit with black and green pads, black belt and boots.
Accessories: none.
Filecard Information: FROSTBITE loves the challenge of surviving and thriving in a harsh arctic environment. There are other G. I. JOE team members who are better armored vehicle drivers, but few of them could find their way through a blizzard without a GPS, unclog a fuel line in sub-zero temperature, or know instinctively where a crevasse is hidden under snow cover. He doesn't mind the cold; in fact, an icy wind in his face makes him feel more alive. Extreme cold tends to make troops sluggish and careless, but what it does for FROSTBITE is exactly the opposite. Any COBRA infiltration team expecting to attack a G. I. JOE base under cover of a blinding snowstorm is in for a nasty surprise, and his name is FROSTBITE.

POB: Fresno, CASecondary MOS: Sabotage
Appearance: black hair in green headband; yellow-green tank top with brown chest straps and white wrist wraps; green pants with brown belt and boots.

Filecard Information: Before evil corrupted him and changed his fate forever, STORM SHADOW shared a close friendship with SGT. STALKER and SNAKE EYES, serving with them in the same military unit. Back then, he was known to everyone as "Tommy" and always carried his bow and steel-tipped arrows as well as his M16 rifle. During one long-range patrol, the three friends spotted an enemy fighter and, knowing the rest of the fighter's platoon couldn't be too far behind, they radioed for evacuation. Just as the helicopter arrived, weapons fire tore through the air, seriously wounding SNAKE EYES. Ignoring orders to leave his friend behind, STORM SHADOW ran through the crossfire to rescue him, dodging bullets with uncanny ease and saving SNAKE EYES from certain death.
"I was not going to leave him behind. We would come out together, or not at all."

Covert Mission SpecialistE-7 (Army sergeant first class)SN: (marked out)
File Name: (marked out, first initial appears to be M.)Primary MOS: Infantry
POB: (marked out)Secondary MOS: Hand-to-Hand Combat Instructor
Appearance: blond hair, green jungle hat (03 Cross Hair's) attached backwards with picture of Snake Eyes' sister; painted shadow over eyes; green short-sleeved vest with diagonal ammo belt; green pants with yellow-green belt, holster, and boots.
Accessories: black backpack (92 Gung-Ho's); black machine gun (05 Rock 'n Roll's M60) with bipod.
Filecard Information: SNAKE EYES owes his life to STORM SHADOW, which makes it even more of a tragedy that they are now bitter enemies. Back when he was a regular soldier in the military, SNAKE EYES served with STORM SHADOW and SGT. STALKER, long before the G. I. JOE Team and the COBRA organization came into their lives. While conducting long-range recon, SNAKE EYES carried two things with him at all times: his M60 machine gun and a battered picture of his twin sister. He never spoke much, remaining silent even when STORM SHADOW offered him a place in the "family business." On one patrol, SNAKE EYES was seriously wounded in an attack, and STORM SHADOW risked his own life to run back through heavy weapons fire to save him. Now, every time SNAKE EYES faces his enemy in combat, he cannot forget that this is the same person who once was his friend.

Accessories: brown jacket (new, with cream lining); black handgun (03 Beachhead's).
Filecard Information: AGENT KRIEGER was a cover girl and fashion model in Chicago and New York prior to enlistment. She grew disillusioned with the shallow world of modeling and joined the military to take her life in a more meaningful direction. Now instead of being swathed in silk, she is covered in grease, and couldn't be happier. She is proficient in diesel mechanics and gas turbine technology, and can perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repair on any AFV that rolls into the vehicle bay, as well as fabricate new parts from scrap metal in the field. This glamour girl turned grease monkey is totally in her element talking about compression ratios and internal combustion over donuts and coffee. The only time she needs a stiletto heel is to loosen a rusty lug nut.

This helps him not only find the COBRA forces he is tracking, but also anticipate their actions. He is a qualified expert with all the latest weapons systems available to the G. I. JOE Team but does not depend on technology. In the field, equipped with just a knife, he can create his own weapons, as well as traps, snares, and deadfalls. As effective as these devices are, he still claims that the best weapons are psychological ones.

Filecard Information: Sgt. Stalker knows more about SNAKE EYES and STORM SHADOW than most people. He fought beside them when they served together as part of a long-range recon patrol, back when he was named "Lonzo," STORM SHADOW was called "Tommy," and SNAKE EYES was known as [marked out]. SGT. STALKER carried his suppressed M16 with a sure and steady grip, taking point as they scouted out hostile territory. One day he found out how deep loyalty between friends can run. They encountered an enemy soldier in advance of his platoon, and before they could be evacuated, weapons fire exploded around them, wounding SNAKE EYES so seriously that SGT. STALKER thought he was dead. The evac chopper was being fired upon, so SGT. STALKER ordered STORM SHADOW to leave SNAKE EYES behind. But STORM SHADOW disobeyed orders and ran through a hail of bullets to rescue his friend.

MINDBENDER created SERPENTOR, gathering the DNA of history's most powerful military leaders, he included Hannibal in his genetic stew. The twisted doctor then went on to separately re-create each of these dead leaders. A brilliant tactician and daring general, HANNIBAL wants to achieve the task he set for himself centuries ago: liberate and conquer. Believing that the end always justifies the means, he will ruthlessly sacrifice vast numbers of his own troops, if necessary, to achieve his goal. The G. I. JOE Team represents all the enemies and detractors who thwarted him long ago, and he intends to repudiate his vision of glory by trampling them into the dust beneath his feet.

2006 Viper Lockdown Figures

G. I. JaneItem # 13408Viper Lockdown 6-pack
PhysicistE-5 (Army sergeant)SN: 413-51-AM61
File Name: Sgt. Jane Ann MartellePrimary MOS: Particle Physics
POB: Cumberland, RISecondary MOS: Combat Nurse
Appearance: short yellow hair; grey short-sleeved shirt with Joe logo on chest; black backpack straps; green and black camo pants with green gloves, belt, kneepads, and boots.
Accessories: black handgun (03 Beachhead's); black assault rifle (03 Sgt. Hacker's); black knife (91 Low-Light's); black figure stand.
Filecard Information: G. I. JANE was a military operative whose cover was as a combat nurse. In missions around the globe, she provided her medical skills and scientific expertise in strategic defense technology. When G. I. JOE formed his covert team, he recruited her as a scientific specialist while maintaining her official cover as a nurse. She eventually "left" the military to get a Ph.D. in physics; while she no longer appeared in the active roster, she had, in fact, moved to deep cover operations. When G. I. JOE "retired" from the team and became head of secret military defense installation, he brought G. I. JANE onto the team as the lead scientist. Through her work in high-energy particle physics, she was instrumental in the development of a rapid-pulse electron beam to be used for global defense initiatives.
"It takes all kinds of soldiers to fight COBRA. I battle them by developing scientific technology. Of course, when I'm up to my ears in COBRA thugs, just throw me an M16 and get out of my way."

Filecard Information: A graduate of West Point, G. I. JOE rose through the ranks and distinguished himself as an outstanding soldier. He was recruited by Special Forces and became a Green Beret, participating in covert missions in trouble spots around the world. Soon he was the most sought after expert on secret operations and successfully led many of the most challenging missions ever conducted. With the rise of the COBRA organization, it became apparent that a special team was needed to fight this dangerous threat. G. I. JOE himself "retired" from the team and disappeared from the official military roster. But unofficially, he is the head of a secret strategic defense initiative installation whose lead scientist is none other than G. I. JANE.

Appearance: black helmet with red faceplate; grey shirt with black diagonal straps; black gloves; blue pants with red stripes; black holster and boots
Accessories: black handgun (03 Beachhead's); two black knives (91 Low-Light's); black figure stand.
Filecard Information: The chillingly effective interrogator for the COBRA organization has a past that is shrouded in mystery. Is he the former head of security for a deposed dictator? A demented psychiatric physician? An IRS investigator? Whatever his credentials, he is a master at extracting information from prisoners. And he can usually break them by simply talking to them. With a soothing voice that lulls captors into a trance, the careful application of logic and reason, and just a hint of sympathy, the COBRA INTERROGATOR soon has the information he needs. Of course, a prisoner sometimes chooses not to cooperate. That's when the interrogator calls in COBRA VIPER GUARDS to help change the captor's mind with some physical inducements.
"Of course I could simply hurt them until they talk. But it's so much more amusing to twist their minds until all they want to do is tell me every single secret they know."

Accessories: black submachine gun (02 Neo-Viper's Skorpion); black assault rifle (02 Neo-Viper's AK-74); black grenade launcher (05 Gung Ho's); black figure stand.
Filecard Information: COBRA VIPER troops are the grunts of the COBRA legions. If there's a low-level, down-and-dirty job that needs doing, these are the guys who are sent in to do it. They wear multi-layered body armor and wrap-around helmets with built-in radio telecommunications gear, and carry multi-burst laser pistols, commando rifles, and grenade launchers. They are assigned to different divisions and locations. Those who display excessive meannes and cold-hearted detachment are assigned to the prison where captured enemies and hostages are kept. Besides guarding the cells, they assist COBRA INTERROGATOR in the retrieval of information from prisoners. The more a prisoner resists, the better the COBRA VIPER troops like it, because the interrogator lets them apply physical punishment whenever someone refuses to cooperate.
"It's a real party around here when we capture a member of the G. I. JOE team. We get to use our full complement of interrogation tactics."

A former member of the Soviet Army, DRAGONSKY joined the OKTOBER GUARD as the team's mechanic, welder, and incendiary weapons specialist. He has combined all three skills to build custom-designed fire-blasting attachments for the team's vehicles. GORKY is a tough and versatile fighter who is utterly fearless in battle and capable of handling any situation thrown at him. The hard-nosed members of the original OKTOBER GUARD reserved their acceptance of him until he had proved his mettle on a real operation. Filecard Information: A gifted linguist and covert operations expert, LADY JAYE has participated in or led many undercover missions for the G. I. JOE team. With advanced skills in cryptologic linguistics, signals intelligence, and electronic interception analysis, this graduate of Bryn Mawr and Trinity College has a tough, no-nonsense approach. She prefers to be in the middle of the action where her quick thinking and left hook can both be put to good use. When she's not on missions or analyzing inercepted communications and aerial photos to spot COBRA activity, she "relaxes" by repairing the weapons on tanks and fighting vehicles. She is qualified in electronic and mechanical repair and keeps the mechanisms in battle-ready condition. Her favorite part is testing the equipment once she's repaired it, using live ammunition fired at confiscated COBRA vehicles.

He joined the Russian Army, then was recruited for the OKTOBER GUARD after many of its original members met their demise during and ill-fated mission against COBRA. He's an expert with a variety of weapons from submachine guns to grenade launchers and laser-guided missile systems, and he advises the OKTOBER GUARD on the most effective application of weapons in their confrontations with COBRA.

Accessories: black laser rifle (84 Baroness's); black assault rifle (91 Red Star's AK-103).
Filecard Information: The COBRA TROOPER infantry forces are the most basic, bottom-of-the-barrel soldiers in the COBRA regime.

POB: Springsboro, OHSecondary MOS: Carpenter
Appearance: brown hair; blue short-sleeved shirt; beige pants with olive green kneepads; black belt and boots.
Accessories: grey helmet (shared with Red Zone and Rook, with black visor and green trim); green padded vest (shared with Rook, with black straps); green spring missile launcher (05 Salvo's) with sight; red missile (05 Bazooka's); black side-handle baton (05 Sgt. Mutt's); black figure stand.
Filecard Information: Imposing and powerful, CHECKPOINT is the only man to ever best MAJOR BARRAGE on a wrestling mat. Back in college they attended rival schools, and a mutual respect/resentment relationship was born. It was rumored that MAJOR BARRAGE blew out a knee during a wrestling match with CHECKPOINT, forcing MAJOR BARRAGE to miss the Olympic tryouts. Needless to say, when these two behemoths pass each other in the halls, you can cut the tension with a chainsaw. It's a good thing that CHECKPOINT is an excellent carpenter because he spends most of his downtime fixing the walls that he and MAJOR BARRAGE bust up when their egos collide.

Filecard Information: The G. I. JOE team took an interest in RED ZONE when they learned he was considered "a little too enthusiastic" for the FBI. That means he often pounded the sense out of bad guys while catching them and usually left large holes in enemy installations. That also means he's the perfect guy to fight his way through a legion of COBRA VIPER troops and COBRA B.A.T. forces to help his teammates out. When everything is on the line, RED ZONE is usually the guy with a grenade launcher in one hand, a rifle in the other, and the shattered splinters of a big, thick door at his feet.

Filecard Information: ROOK specializes in the art of lie detection without the use of polygraph machines, computer voice stress analysis, or truth serum. Instead, he observes the subtle differences in the timing and duration of emotional gestures, expressions, and words. These differences will instantly reveal to ROOK if his contact is lying. Now take this skill and multiply it by the 14 different languages that ROOK is proficient in, add the fact that he does 90% of his work in dark alleys, secret rooms, and rooftops, and you begin to get a picture of why GENERAL ABERNATHY was so interested in recruiting him for the G. I. JOE team.

GallowsItem # 14158Plague Troopers vs. Steel Brigade 6-pack
Plague Trooper
Appearance: black helmet with red crest; red on right half of face mask; black flex-amored suit with red shoulder pads
Accessories: black Minigun (M134 soft plastic, larger than Roadblock's, with silver barrel) and detachable black strap; black knife (05 Spirit's, with silver blade); black figure stand.
Filecard Information: Machine gunners provide suppressing fire on an opposing force's position. This forces the enemy to take cover, which either halts an oncoming offensive or allows friendly forces to move onto the field with less danger. To achieve this goal, DESTRO designed the COBRA SAW VIPER program for the COBRA organization. The COBRA SAW VIPER troops are not expected to be precise. Their objective is to throw as much lead down range as possible and let the other troops worry about the rest. Whenever a particular COBRA SAW VIPER fired with precision and rapidity, his squad leaders recommended him for transfer to the elite PLAGUE TROOPER force. GALLOWS was one of the first to be recognized as the best machine gunner, and was issued his code name by the force's leader, GUILLOTINE.
"GALLOWS sees himself as the judge, jury, and hangman. If he comes to a batlefield near you, expect heavy fire with a marksman's accuracy combined with remarkable speed and efficiency."

Grim SkullItem # 14158Plague Troopers vs. Steel Brigade 6-pack
Plague Trooper
Appearance: black crested helmet; yellow on left half of face mask; black flex-amored suit with yellow shoulder pads.
Accessories: black pistol (02 Shipwreck's Uzi); black anti-tank machine gun/rocket launcher (05 Scrap Iron's, with red shells); black figure stand.
Filecard Information: PLAGUE TROOPER forces are the very best of the very worst, hand-selected by COBRA COMMANDER from the various COBRA ranks. While the standard soldiers rarely interact with the PLAGUE TROOPER forces, the reputation of GRIM SKULL is legendary throughout the ranks. He was a SAND VIPER trooper whose nit was tasked with retrieving live mutation samples from a remote research facility in the Central African desert. The lab personnel escaped with their test subjects, but GRIM SKULL improvised and successfully returned to COBRA COMMANDER with live samples, after he had altered the genetic structure of his own team using materials left behind in the lab. Impressed with his ruthlessness, COBRA COMMANDER immediately signed orders to transfer GRIM SKULL to the PLAGUE TROOPER force.

GuillotineItem # 14158Plague Troopers vs. Steel Brigade 6-pack
Plague Trooper Commander
Appearance: bald with black moustache and goatee; black sleeveless vest with brown straps; black gloves; black pants with brown belt and holster; black kneepads and boots.
Accessories: black diving helmet (new, "Moray"-style with red tubes); black backpack (new, square with large pouches and sword slot); black amphibious machine gun (new, alien look); white sword (new, with skull-and-spine hilt and silver blade); black figure stand.
Filecard Information: It takes a truly sinister individual to lead the PLAGUE TROOPER forces, and GUILLOTINE is just the person for the job. A former US Navy SEAL who became frustrated with the lack of ruthlessness that his fellow SEALs displayed, he joined the COBRA organization and became a COBRA EEL, enduring the grueling aquatic training and jungle warfare schol. He quickly rose to a leadership post by breaking the will of anyone who stood in his way. He is qualified to lead any COBRA detachment and can suffer environmental extremes that leave most of his peers begging for relief. It's rumored that GUILLOTINE was hand-selected by COBRA COMMANDER to design the training program for the PLAGUE TROOPER force. He now leads this new force with a fervor that rivals that of COBRA COMMANDER himself.

ViperItem # 18498Viper Pit 6-Pack
COBRA Infantryman
Appearance: dark blue helmet with black goggles and silver faceplate; dark blue shirt and black vest with red shoulder pads; black gloves with red wristbands; dark blue pants with red stripes; black belt and boots with grey pads on ankles.
Accessories (for four of the figures): black backpack (92 Gung-Ho's); light grey pistol (90 Ambush's grenade launcher); red figure stand.
Filecard Information: COBRA VIPER troopers are the grunts of the COBRA legions. If there's a low-level, down-and-dirty job that needs doing, these are the guys who are sent in to do it. They wear multi-layered body armor and wrap-around helmets with built-in radio telecommunications gear, and carry multi-burst laser pistols, commando rifles, and grenade launchers. Even though they are superbly trained and formidably equipped, they are looked down upon by the more elite COBRA groups, simply because of their "basic infantry" status. However, this actually makes them fight even harder, just to prove that plain rottenness gets the job done as well—or better than—all that "specialized" training. They're ready, willing, and able to cause harm and do damage anywhere that COBRA COMMANDER sends them.

Collector's Club Exclusives

Flak-ViperItem # 2 of 4Collector's Club-exclusive Operation Flaming MOTH 2-pack
Cobra Anti-Aircraft Trooper, Operation: Flaming M.O.T.H.
File Name: Shane R. NostawPrimary MOS: Anti-Aircraft
POB: United KingdomSecondary MOS: Artillery Coordinator
Appearance: brown helmet with black visor; light brown shirt with brown gloves and black shoulder pad; light brown pants with leggings and black boots.
Accessories: black backpack (92 Flak-Viper's, with black triggers); black laser rifle (92 Flak-Viper's); two black missiles (92 Flak-Viper's).
Filecard Information: The FLAK-VIPERs are trained in the use of portable artillery weapons to fire at any airborne targets that can be observed, aimed at, and destroyed. Their multipurpose assault weapons have a passive, infrared targeting and sighting system that makes use of a G.P.S. (Gloal Positioning System) to obtain accurate aiming points, the FLAK-VIPERs have exceptional natural hand-eye coordination and the ability to concentrate simultaneously on two or more targets in their range of sight. This allows them to fire extremely accurate missiles at G. I. JOE aircraft with absolute impunity! To maintain the maximum level of effectiveness, FLAK-VIPERs spend long hours every day practicing simulated missile engagements using a program cartridge that plugs into their helmets.
This FLAK-VIPER comes from a family of bus owners in England, who watched their life's work suffer through years of aerial bombing during times of war. He grew up hating the idea of being helpless against aircraft and joined the COBRA army, where he strove like no other FLAK-VIPER to personally deny the enemy air superiority. COBRA COMMANDER took notice of his unparalleled hit ratio, and chose him for Operation: Flaming M.O.T.H., where he will accompany a RANGE-VIPER into the Australian desert to retrieve a vital piece of the downed US Military satellite.

Variations: None.
Mold: Flak-Viper (92, 93, 06), Nullifier (04)

Frag-ViperItem # 1 of 4Collector's Club-exclusive Operation Flaming MOTH 2-pack
Cobra Grenadier, Operation: Flaming M.O.T.H.
File Name: David T. ReleehwPrimary MOS: Grenade Thrower
POB: United StatesSecondary MOS: Demolitions
Appearance: black helmet with blue eyepieces and gold air tubes; green diagonal-stripe camo shirt and pants with brown straps; brown gloves and boots.
Accessories: black xistera (89 Frag-Viper's); black backpack (90 Range-Viper's); black explosives pack (91 Big Ben's) with strap; black grenade launcher (90 Range-Viper's) with chamber; black machine gun (03 Torpedo's); two black grenades (91 Big Ben's); black hose (long standard).
Filecard Information: The FRAG-VIPER is an integral part of the COBRA VIPER fire-team. They are trained to toss high-explosive fragmentation grenades with all the range and accuracy of an M-79 or M-203 R.P.G.L. (Rocket Propeled Grenade Launcher), but without the noise from the muzzle blast. The secret lies in the manual hurling basket, based on the cesta used in the Basque sport of Jai Alai. The FRAG-VIPER cesta is equipped with automatic feed and variable time-fuser with a cable link to the helmet's automatic range-finder. Their insect-like goggles contain electro-optical image-intensifiers that provide both infrared and night vision capabilities to locate targets wherever they may hide.
Originally hailng from an area known for its abundant forest reserves, this disaffected youth ironically grew to hate nature. His yearning to unleash an explosive arsenal on the environment made him perfect fodder for the COBRA army. Eventually, as a FRAG-VIPER, he racked up COBRA's highest field score ever—though not acount of the most enemies eliminated, but of the least amount of friendly forces neutralized as well as foliage left standing. He has been assigned to a NIGHT-VIPER squad leader for Operation: Flaming M.O.T.H., a satellite recovery mission in the treacherous jungles of South America. The FRAG-VIPER's high-explosive ordnance should prove to be especially effective in clearing jungle undergrowth and flushing out any camouflaged G. I. JOE troops. He will need to clear an area for extraction using any and all weapons at his disposal.

Versions: 1. 1989 2. 2006 (Flaming MOTH)

Mold: Frag-Viper (89, 06)
Toy notes: Available in a Jungle Theater 2-pack with Night-Viper. Releehw is Wheeler spelled backwards. The character is named for Joe collector Terry Wheeler.

Night-ViperItem # 1 of 4Collector's Club-exclusive Operation Flaming MOTH 2-pack
Cobra Night Fighter, Operation: Flaming M.O.T.H.
File Name: Spencer L. DavisPrimary MOS: Squad Leader
POB: United StatesSecondary MOS: Night Spotter
Appearance: dark green helmet; dark green shirt with red emblem on chest and neon green shoulder pads; black straps and knife with brown hilt; neon green gloves; dark green and neon green pants with brown knee-high boots; pegs on right leg to hold rifle.
Accessories: black visor (89 Night-Viper's, with blue lens); black backpack (89 Night-Viper's); dark grey rifle (89 Night-Viper's).
Filecard Information: The NIGHT-VIPER helmet is a miracle of electronic-miniaturization. Aside from its Monocular Night Vision Device (MNVD), it includes a wide-angle, third-generation, image-intensifier, directional sound amplifier, laser range-finder, and boasts a passive infrared detector that can spot the body heat of a lizard at 100 yards. The NIGHT-VIPER combat suit, helmet, and weapons are mostly made of synthetic composites that reduce the wearer's own infrared signature and defy most ground radars. He can use either electronically assisted ranged weapons or vicious CQB (close quarter battle) techniques to accomplish any mission. Al these components give hm a "see first...eliminate first" advntage in any night fighting scenario.
In his youth, this future COBRA found comfort in perpetual darkness, hating sunglight and those who would revel in it. His criminal exploits in the dark hours of night lead [sic] him to join COBRA and gradually rise within its ranks. He gained the attention of COBRA high command after leading many successful raids on G. I. JOE outposts. It was COBRA COMMANDER who personally chose this NIGHT-VIPER squad leader for Operation: Flaming M.O.T.H. and teamed him with a FRAG-VIPER for the satellite recovery mission. Combining their specialized skills and equipment, the jungle duo must creep into the deepest, darkest jungles of South America to locate the first of four components from the sabotaged US military satellite. They must find this crucial piece wherever it may be hidden in the nearly impenetrable labyrinth of trees and vines before any G. I. JOE troops can intervene.

Filecard Information: Nullifiers are the elite pilots of Destro's personal army. They require a six-hour weight workout every day simply to maintain their massive physique and high levels of endurance. Each throttle jockey is fed solely on a diet of high-protein gruel that looks like grey mush and tastes like wet cardboad. Their strict regimen is necessary in order for them to command the variety of vehicles in the Iron Grenadier Air Force—especialy the A.G.P. (Anti-Gravity Pod). This also explains why they always have the temperament of a rabid pit bull.

Range-ViperItem # 2 of 4Collector's Club-exclusive Operation Flaming MOTH 2-pack
Cobra Wilderness Trooper, Operation: Flaming M.O.T.H.
File Name: Keith B. HollandPrimary MOS: Long Range Recon
POB: AustraliaSecondary MOS: Survivalist
Appearance: brown helmet with light brown face mask and grey eyes; light brown shirt with silver ammo belts; brown shoulder guards, belt, and gloves; light brown pants and black boots with brown padding.
Accessories: black backpack (90 Range-Viper's); black grenade launcher (90 Range-Viper's) with chamber; black mortar (90 Range-Viper's); black mortar shell (90 Range-Viper's); black hose (long standard).
Filecard Information: RANGE-VIPERs are trained to survive long-term operations deep within unfriendly territory, completely cut off from communications or supplies. They have an unusually high tolerance for discomfort and can survive on a diet of snakes, grubs, roots, berries, nuts, and whatever slow rodents they can catch. They are expected to procure their own ammunition by way of hit and run raids on enemy camps and ammo depots. These troopers are the top of the food chain and can flourish in the uninhabited wastelands of any region.
The sole survivor of a suspicious accident in the Simpson Deset that claimed his entire family, this anti-social youth grew up to be the perfect candidate for the COBRA corps. Coincidentaly, it was years later as a RANGE-VIPER that he was the only survivor of a long range recon team that went into the rugged desert and disappeared without a trace. He actually enjoys being posted in remote locations, left to his own devices, and lying in wait to take out a G. I. JOE patrol. He was chosen by SKULLBUSTER, the Range-Viper Commander, to return to the Australian Outback for Operation: Flaming M.O.T.H. because of his knowledge of the area and his apparently uncanny knack for survival. He grudgingly accepts the aid of one of COBRA COMMANDER's top FLAK-VIPERs, but no one is counting on them both making it back.

2006 Convention Exclusives

Felix "Mercer" StrattonItem # Convention-exclusive 3-pack
Sgt. Slaughter's RenegadesE-5 (Army sergeant equivalent)SN: 933-41-5632
File Name: Felix P. StrattonPrimary MOS: Small Arms Armorer
POB: Spencer, WVSecondary MOS: Infiltration
Appearance: brown flat-top hair; white sleeveless vest with off-white and brown camo; black backpack straps, green armband, and red tattoo on right arm; blue jeans with white camo padding; brown belt and boots.
Accessories: cream backpack (92 Big Bear's); grey submachine gun (05 Duke's MP5K); grey machine gun (03 Torpedo's); clear figure stand.
Filecard Information: FELIX "MERCER" STRATTON was the only COBRA VIPER that ever defected to the G. I. JOE team and survived. While some team members are still wary around him, even after voluntarily wearing an electronic monitoring armband, he has proven himself to SGT. SLAUGHTER on countless occasions—which is no easy task. Although his knowledge of the inner workings of COBRA is valuable, his infiltration skills are his greatest aset. Once he even joined the mainstream G. I. JOE team as an official member by changing his name and appearance, but he soon grew tired of "playing by the rules" and returned to the life on the edge that being a Renegade guarantees.
MERCER's loyalty to the one man who gave him a second chance knows no bounds. Upon hearing of COBRA COMMANDER's challenge to eliminate the Sarge, the former VIPER immediately rounded up the other Renegades. The trio suited up in their new body armor system and headed to the top-secret training camp to protect their mentor.

POB: Pago Pago, SamoaSecondary MOS: Special Services
Appearance: Samoan; curly black hair; gold headband; white sleeveless vest with off-white and brown camo; black backpack straps, green armband, and red tattoo on right arm; blue jeans with white camo padding; brown belt and boots.
Accessories: cream backpack (92 Big Bear's); grey assault rifle (03 Sgt. Hacker's); cream staff (04 Storm Shadow's); clear figure stand.
Filecard Information: DAVID "RED DOG" TAPUTAPU could have had a pro football career as a barefoot place-kicker, but he was permanently suspended for unnecessary roughness. While this recklessness was too uncontrollable for the regular G. I. JOE team, SGT. SLAUGHTER recognized his potential and took him under his wing as part of his personal experiment in rehabilitation, known as the Renegades program. Since they don't officially exist, they can function with very little restraint but if they are compromised, they're on their own. All their missions are covert, and they are even paid through a special fund earmarked as "Pentagon Pest Control."
RED DOG may never learn to fully control his animalistic rage, because there always seems to be a good use for it. When the Renegades found out about the threat to SGT. SLAUGHTER by "intercepting" a messenger, RED DOG literally chomped at the bit to join the mission to protect him. He was barely contained by his comrades, nearly crazed in his desire to save their leader before his training camp literally becomes its namesake. "Fourth down, time to punt. . . YOU!"

Sergeant SlaughterItem # Convention Exclusive
G. I. JOE Drill InstructorE-7 (Army sergeant first class)SN: 817-76-SS81
File Name: (CLASSIFIED)Primary MOS: Infantry/Drill Instructor
POB: Parris Island, SCSecondary MOS: Desert Survival Trainer
Appearance: brown hair and moustache; light brown sleeveless vest with open collar; gold ammo belt on chest; green right armband; white pants with brown and off-white camo; brown belt, holster, and boots.
Accessories: brown hat (88 Sgt. Slaughter's); grey carbine (04 Duke's M4/M203); grey knife (91 Low-Light's); clear figure stand.
Filecard Information: The G. I. JOE team is known for its ultra-tough members who can stare down a horde of enemy troops without batting an eye, so it takes an exceptional individual to qualify as a drill instructor for the team. SGT. SLAUGHTER is that guy. Even seasoned soldiers quake in their boots when the sergeant glares at them and snarls a command. How touch is he? He can drill trainees into the ground for 72 hours straight before breaking a sweat, and marches over their backs while they're doing finger pushups. Legend has it that he brushes his teeth with barbed wire, shaves with a blowtorch, and spits bullets. He's been known to ride his A.P.V. through enemy fortresses rather than blow them up, just because it takes less time and he enjoys making an enormous mess.
Nobody's going to take out the large Sarge. These mercenaries may think they're tough, but when you mess with the best—you also face his Renegade trio. SGT. SLAUGHTER has the home court advantage and his three sentinels will defend him to the bitter end. They are all ready to face the enemy and slap the ugly right off their faces.

Filecard Information: VARUJAN "TAURUS" AYVAZYAN was a circus acrobat in Europe who did occasional undercover work for INTERPOL. Unfortunately, his penchant for scimitars and other exotic edged weapons left too many tell-tale injuries. He soon found himself out of work and looking for a sign, wandering the desert and mountains with a circus troupe. Recruited by G. I. JOE and sent to the secret training facility code-named "The Slaughterhouse," he knew he had found his calling with like-minded rebels who honor justice but have a few problems with authority. Only a tough-as-nails drill instructor like SGT. SLAUGHTER can keep him in line, but when he is done, all of his Renegades will be perfect.
Hearing of COBRA COMMANDER's threat to the Sarge, TAURUS somehow "acquired" three light-weight multi-threat tactical body armor systems from a secret Future Soldier program being tested in their vicinity. He outfitted the Renegades, and without thought to his personal safety, rushed off to the Sarge's defense—unaware of the strength of the combined forces with which they would have to contend.

Skull Squad CommanderO-4 (Army major equivalent)
File Name: Maj. Sebastian BluddPrimary MOS: Mercenary
POB: Sydney, AustraliaSecondary MOS: Weapons and Tactics
Appearance: black and silver spiked helmet with silver eyepiece; black hair and moustache; brown shirt with black vest and gloves; brown pants with grey belt and black thigh-high boots.
Accessories: grey sniper rifle (03 Black Out's DSR-1) with bipod; grey submachine gun (05 Snake Eyes's Ingram Mac-10); clear figure stand.
Filecard Information: MAJOR BLUDD received his initial military training in the Australian Special Air Service but left to join the French Foreign Legion. He then worked as a military advisor in a number of hostile countries where he committed criminal acts against peaceful governments. He is still wanted for crimes on three continents and is considered one of the world's most dangerous fugitives. Proficient with every form of infantry weapon currently in use, MAJOR BLUDD also has a tactical mind like a steel trap but continues to write really bad poetry. His rhymes even get rejected from prison newsletters!
A mercenary's job is a heartless one, and MAJOR BLUDD continues to prove that his heart was lost long ago. He has been on the COBRA payroll numerous times, but it's his freelance activities that have given him the "bad" reputation. His latest endeavor calls for him to recruit an international group of the most cutthroat soldiers-for-hire, send them to the four corners of the world to track down the latest location of SGT. SLAUGHTER's secret training base, and remove the drill instructor—permanently.

Coil TrooperItem # Convention-exclusive Cobra's Most Wanted set
Mercenary Soldier
File Name: VariousPrimary MOS: Infantry
POB: VariousSecondary MOS: Counter Intelligence
Appearance: black face mask; green shirt with black straps and gold stitching; grey grenades on stomach; green pants with gold padding on sides of legs; black gloves and boots.
Accessories: grey assault rifle (86 Dial-Tone's HK 53); grey assault rifle (92 Firefly's Cobra NA-55); clear figure stand.
Filecard Information: COIL TROOPERS are the most vicious and ruthless of all sub-armies in the extended COBRA Empire. They range from former VIPER agents to expatriated soldiers tired of playing by the rules. Because of their mutually secret origins, they tend to be a more tightly knit and better disciplined organization than most of COBRA's foder, and adhere to a strict join-for-life policy. Swarming over their enemies with far more violence than is required, they pursue the goals of their leader, OVERLORD, with absolute devotion. Rumors that this loyalty is chemically induced have yet to be substantiated, though they range from aggression-causing additives in their food to derivatives of SERPENTOR's blood in their drink!
The troopers of the COIL army are driven to help their leader win COBRA COMMANDER's mercenary challenge by eliminating SGT. SLAUGHTER. Some look forward to the opportunity to crush the legendary G. I. JOE Drill Instructor because of old COBRA grudges, some because of the rough treatment they received before "washing out" under his tutelage!
"No one escapes the crushing might of the COIL!"

MortalItem # Convention-exclusive Cobra's Most Wanted set
Cobra Elite EnforcerO-6 (Army colonel equivalent)
File Name: UnknownPrimary MOS: Assassination
POB: Buenos Aires, ArgentinaSecondary MOS: Tactical Sniper
Appearance: silver helmet and visor with red face mask; silver armored chest, left arm, waist, and right leg; red right arm, left leg, and belt; black boot on right leg.
Accessories: grey sniper rifle (03 Tunnel Rat's Accuracy Int'l AWS); grey crossbow (82 Scarlett's XK-1); clear figure stand.
Filecard Information: COBRA MORTAL is a mystery, yet his name and talents are well known throughout South America. He served for several years in the COBRA battalion that operates south of the equator, but for reasons unknown, severed his official ties and became a mercenary agent. He is now a professional assassin with a long list of high-profile names that have fallen under his scope. Equally adept at reconnaissance and surveillance, his real talent is the elimination of enemies from a concealed location and withdrawing without ever being seen. His cold and calculating tactics as well as his strange body armor, lead many to believe that he may not even be human.
Although he still functions as a COBRA field operative and holds rank when the pay warrants his services, his implacable cruelty marks him as too heartless even for others to stomach. This is exactly how COBRA MORTAL prefers it, trusting in his own abilities rather than relying on vast armies, and using his skill with exotic armaments such as his custom laser crossbow and reflective body armor rather than traditional weapons. He believes tracking down and eliminating SGT. SLAUGHTER will be the perfect opportunity to showcase his merciless ways and make a name for himself the world over.
"He who wears the optimum body armor—always wins!"
